What is the emergency kit, and where should I keep it?
The emergency kit is one printed page with everything needed to get into your vault. Print it, write your master password by hand, and keep it safe.
The emergency kit is a single printed page. It holds what you, or someone you trust, would need to get into your vault.
What is on it
- The email address for your vault.
- The server address to type into the app: https://secure-vault.dankore.com.
- A blank space to write your master password by hand.
- The steps to get back in if something goes wrong.
Print your kit
- Go to https://vault.dankore.com and sign in to your account page.
- Open your emergency kit.
- Press the button to print it.
- Take the paper from your printer.
If you do not have a printer, a library or a family member can help. Or email us and we will help you.
Write your master password on it
- Use a pen.
- Write your master password in the blank space, clearly and slowly.
- Check each letter and dash.
Never type your master password into our website. Only write it on the paper by hand. The only places to type it are the Bitwarden app or https://secure-vault.dankore.com.
Where to keep it
Keep it somewhere safe that you will remember, for example:
- In a home safe.
- In a folder with your important papers, like your will or passport.
- In a sealed envelope with your lawyer or in a bank safe deposit box.
Do not keep it in your wallet, stuck to your computer, or as a photo on your phone.
Tell one trusted person
Tell one person you trust where the kit is. If you are ill or away, they can help.
For extra peace of mind, also set up emergency access. Then your trusted person has two ways to help.
Keep it up to date
If you change your master password, print a fresh kit and write the new one on it. Then shred the old page.
If you turned on two-step sign-in for our website, keep your recovery codes with the kit too. See turn on two-step sign-in for my account.
If you would like us to print and fill in the kit with you, ask about in-person help. Or email us at [email protected].
