This is the current version of our terms of service.
If anything here is unclear, email us at [email protected] and we will explain it in plain words.
In short
Dankore Vault keeps your passwords safe. Personal is $5 a month. Family is $10 a month for up to 6 people.
You pay monthly in advance. You can cancel any time on the Billing page.
We cannot see or reset your master password. If you lose it, we cannot get your vault back.
If your plan ends, your vault stays open 30 more days so you can save a copy. Then it is deleted.
The service is run on a best-effort basis. Keep your own copy of your vault as a backup.
These terms are an agreement between you and Dankore Software. Dankore Software is run by Adamu Muhammad in Iowa, United States. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Dankore Software. "You" means the person who uses Dankore Vault.
By making an account or using Dankore Vault, you agree to these terms. Please also read our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. What Dankore Vault is
Dankore Vault is a place to keep your passwords and other private notes safe. It has three parts:
- The website at https://vault.dankore.com. Here you make your account, pay, and manage your family.
- The vault server at https://secure-vault.dankore.com. This is where your locked vault is kept. It runs Vaultwarden, which is free, open source software (AGPL-3.0 licence).
- The Bitwarden apps. You use the free, official Bitwarden apps on your phone, computer and web browser to open your vault.
The Bitwarden apps are made by Bitwarden, Inc. under the GPL-3.0 licence. We are not part of Bitwarden, Inc. Bitwarden, Inc. does not endorse us. The Bitwarden apps have their own terms, which you accept when you install them.
You can see all the software we use, and who made it, on our credits page.
2. Your account
- You must give us a real name and an email address that you can read.
- You must be at least 13 years old to make your own account. Younger children can only use Dankore Vault when a parent or guardian adds them to a Family plan (see section 4).
- You are responsible for what happens in your account. Keep your website password safe.
- We strongly suggest you turn on two-step sign-in on the Security page.
- Tell us at [email protected] straight away if you think someone else has got into your account.
3. Plans and prices
We offer these plans:
- Personal: $5 a month, for one person.
- Family: $10 a month, for up to 6 people, including the person who pays.
- In-person setup (optional): $199, paid once. We come and help you get set up.
All prices are in US dollars. Sales tax is added where the law requires it. There is no free trial.
4. Family plans
The person who pays for a Family plan is the "payer". The payer can add up to 5 other people.
- The payer is responsible for the people they add, and for how those people use the service.
- The payer must have each person's permission before adding their email address.
- A child under 13 can only be added by their parent or guardian. That parent or guardian must supervise the child's use of the service.
- Each family member has their own private vault. The family also has a shared folder called "Family shared" that everyone in the family can see.
- If the payer removes someone, that person loses access to the "Family shared" folder at once. If the Family plan ends, the family keeps the shared folder for 30 days so everyone can save a copy, then it is deleted. Section 9 explains what happens to each private vault. A person who was removed counts as one of the 6 people until their private vault is deleted.
5. Paying
- We bill you monthly, in advance, by card. Payments are handled by Stripe, a payment company. Your card number goes to Stripe, never to us.
- Your plan renews by itself each month until you cancel it.
- If we change our prices, we will email you at least 30 days before the new price applies. You can cancel before then if you do not want to pay the new price.
6. Cancelling and refunds
- You can cancel any time on the Billing page of the website.
- When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the month you have already paid for.
- We do not give refunds for part of a month. We may still give a refund when the law requires it, or when we choose to.
- In-person setup: if you cancel before the appointment, we refund the $199 in full. After the appointment has happened, the setup fee cannot be refunded.
7. If a payment fails
- If a payment does not go through, Stripe will try again. We will also email you.
- If the bill is still unpaid after 14 days, we pause your vault. While it is paused, nobody can sign in to it. Nothing is deleted.
- When you pay, your vault opens again.
- If the plan ends because it was not paid, section 9 applies.
8. Your master password
We cannot see your master password and we cannot reset it. If you lose it, we cannot get your vault back.
Your vault is locked on your own device before it is sent to our server. It is locked with a key made from your master password. This is called "zero-knowledge" design. It means we cannot read what is in your private vault.
- You are responsible for remembering your master password and keeping it safe.
- If you lose your master password, and you have not set up emergency access or an emergency kit, your vault cannot be opened again. The only choice is to delete it and start over.
- Do not tell your master password to anyone, including us. We will never ask for it.
Family shared folder
To add family members for you automatically, our system holds the key to each family's "Family shared" folder. This means that if someone broke seriously into our systems, the items in the "Family shared" folder could be exposed. Private vaults could not be exposed this way, because we never hold their keys.
Keep your most private items in your own private vault, not in "Family shared".
In-person setup
When we help you in person, we may see your screen. You type your master password yourself. We never write it down and we never keep it.
9. When your plan ends
Your plan ends if you cancel it, if it is not paid, or if you delete your account.
- Your vault stays open for 30 more days after the plan ends. This gives you time to save a copy (an "export") from the Bitwarden app.
- We will send you reminder emails during those 30 days.
- After 30 days, your vault and everything in it is permanently deleted.
- Copies in our backups are removed within 35 days after that.
We will never hold your passwords hostage. You can always save a copy before your vault is deleted.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account on the Security page of the website. When you do:
- We stop all charges straight away, by deleting your customer record at Stripe.
- We delete your account details from our website.
- Your vault stays open for 30 days so you can save a copy. Then it is deleted, as in section 9.
11. Rules for using the service
You agree that you will not:
- Use the service for anything illegal, or store illegal content.
- Store anything that breaks someone else's rights, such as their copyright.
- Try to attack, overload, break into or disrupt the service, or other people's vaults.
- Resell the service, or let other people use it as if it were their own service.
- Share your account with people who are not on your plan.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account. When we can, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
12. Availability and backups
- We run Dankore Vault on our own server, and we do our best to keep it working. We cannot promise it will always be available. There is no uptime guarantee.
- When we plan maintenance, we will tell you ahead of time when we can.
- We make an encrypted backup every day.
- Please keep your own export of your vault as an extra backup, somewhere safe.
13. If we close your account
We may end your use of the service for any reason. If we do, we will email you at least 30 days before. You will also get the 30 days to save a copy of your vault, as in section 9.
If someone seriously abuses the service, we may close their account straight away, without this notice.
14. Our responsibility to you
Please read this section carefully. It limits what we must pay if something goes wrong.
- We provide the service "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises beyond those written in these terms.
- As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses. These include lost profits, lost data, or lost business.
- As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses caused by a lost or forgotten master password, or by someone else learning it.
- As far as the law allows, the most we will pay for all claims about the service is the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law does not allow us to limit.
15. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms from time to time. If we make an important change, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not agree with the change, you can cancel before it applies. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
The date at the top shows when these terms were last updated.
16. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, United States. Any dispute will be handled by the courts in Iowa.
This does not take away any rights you have under the consumer laws of the place where you live, if those laws say they cannot be waived.
If one part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
