How do I choose a trusted person who can get into my vault in an emergency?

With Emergency access, a trusted person can get into your vault after a waiting time you choose, unless you say no. Here is how to set it up.

Emergency access lets you choose a trusted person, such as a son, daughter or close friend. If you are ill, or you forget your master password, they can get into your vault.

They do not see anything until they ask, and a waiting time has passed.

How it works

  1. You choose a trusted person and a waiting time, for example 7 days.
  2. One day, they ask for access.
  3. We email you to say they have asked.
  4. If you do nothing during the waiting time, they get in.
  5. If you are fine, you simply refuse, and they do not get in.

So you stay in control. A shorter waiting time is faster in an emergency. A longer one gives you more time to say no.

Before you start

Your trusted person needs their own vault on Dankore Vault, so they can sign in and ask. If they do not have one yet, email us and we will help you.

Emergency access is included in both the Personal and Family plans.

Set it up

This is easiest on a computer.

  1. Open https://secure-vault.dankore.com in your browser and sign in.
  2. Go to your Settings and find Emergency access.
  3. Click the button to add a trusted person, sometimes called an emergency contact.
  4. Type their email address.
  5. Choose what they can do. View lets them see your items. Takeover lets them set a new master password for your vault.
  6. Choose the waiting time, for example 7 days.
  7. Click Save.

Your trusted person gets an email and accepts it. You may then need to come back to this page and confirm them. This last step makes sure the right person is linked.

Talk to your trusted person first. Tell them what this is for, and that an email from us is on its way.

If they ask for access

You get an email. If you did not expect it, sign in at https://secure-vault.dankore.com, go to Emergency access, and press the button to refuse.

Choose someone you trust completely. After the waiting time, they can see everything in your vault.

Also keep an emergency kit

A trusted person and a printed emergency kit work well together. Tell your trusted person where the kit is kept.
