Everyday use
How do I make my passwords fill in automatically?
Turn on autofill once on your iPhone, Android phone or computer browser. Then your vault offers your saved passwords when you sign in.
Autofill means your vault types your username and password for you. You only switch it on once.
Before you start, make sure you have signed in to the Bitwarden app on that device.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app (the grey gear).
- Tap the search box at the top and type AutoFill.
- Tap AutoFill & Passwords.
- Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys if it is off.
- Under the list of apps, turn on Bitwarden.
- You can turn off other password apps here, so only your vault offers passwords.
Now, when you tap a password box on a website or app, a suggestion appears above the keyboard. Tap it, unlock with Face ID, and your password fills in.
On an Android phone
- Open the Bitwarden app and unlock your vault.
- Tap Settings at the bottom.
- Tap Autofill.
- Turn on Autofill services. Your phone opens its own settings.
- Choose Bitwarden from the list and confirm with OK.
Now, when you tap a password box, Bitwarden offers your saved login. Tap it, unlock with your fingerprint, and your password fills in.
Phone makers name their settings differently. If you cannot find it, open your phone's Settings app and search for autofill.
On a computer
Autofill on a computer works through the browser extension. If you have not added it yet, see use Dankore Vault on my computer.
- Go to the website where you want to sign in.
- Click the username or password box.
- A small Bitwarden menu appears under the box. Click your login.
You can also click the Bitwarden shield icon at the top of your browser. It shows the logins saved for the website you are on. Click one to fill it in.
If nothing appears
- Make sure the item has the website address saved in it. See save a new password.
- Make sure your vault is unlocked.
- Try closing the app or browser and opening it again.
Turn off the browser's own "save passwords" option, so you do not end up with passwords in two places.
If autofill still will not work, email us at [email protected] or book in-person help.
