Safety and privacy

What can Dankore see in my vault?

We cannot see your passwords or notes. Your vault is locked on your own device before it reaches our server. Here is what we can and cannot see.

The short answer: we cannot see your passwords, notes or anything else inside your vault.

How that works

Your vault is locked on your own phone or computer, with your master password, before anything is sent to us. Our server only ever receives the locked version.

Think of it like a safe that you lock at home, and then hand to us to look after. We keep the safe. Only you have the combination.

This is sometimes called "zero-knowledge". It simply means we know nothing about what is inside.

What we cannot see

  • Your master password.
  • Your saved passwords, usernames and websites.
  • Your notes, cards, identities and attached files.
  • Your two-step sign-in codes.

Because we cannot see your master password, we also cannot reset it. That is the price of real safety. Please write it on your emergency kit.

What we can see

To run the service and help you, we can see:

  • Your name and email address.
  • Which plan you are on, and whether your payments went through.
  • When your vault was created.
  • On the Family plan, who is in the family.

Card numbers are handled by Stripe, our payment company. We do not keep your full card number.

A note about the Family plan

On the Family plan, each person's own vault is private. We cannot see it, and nor can the person who pays.

There is one honest exception to know about. To add family members for you automatically, our system holds the key to the "Family shared" folder. So please keep your most private items in your own vault, not in the shared folder. See how the Family plan works.

What if someone breaks into the server?

They would only find locked vaults. Without each person's master password, the vaults cannot be opened.

Our server runs Vaultwarden, a well-known open source program. You can read more on our plain security page.

We will never ask for your master password, by phone, email or text. See spotting scam emails and calls.
