When something goes wrong
I lost my phone or got a new one. Are my passwords gone?
No. Your vault is safely stored on our server, not only on your phone. Install the app on your new phone and sign in again.
Your passwords are not gone. Your vault is stored safely on our server, not only on your phone. You can open it on any new phone or computer.
Set up your new phone
- Install the free Bitwarden app on your new phone.
- Choose Self-hosted and type https://secure-vault.dankore.com as the Server URL.
- Sign in with your vault email and your master password.
The full steps are here:
Everything will be there, just as before. You may need to turn on Face ID or fingerprint, and autofill, again.
If your old phone is lost or stolen
Your vault is locked with your master password. Someone holding your phone still cannot open it without that password. Even so, it is wise to take a few extra steps.
- On a computer, open https://secure-vault.dankore.com and sign in.
- Go to your settings and change your master password.
- If you are asked whether to sign out other devices, choose yes.
- Write the new master password on your emergency kit.
You can also lock or erase the lost phone from a computer:
- For an iPhone, use Apple's Find My at icloud.com/find.
- For Android, use Google's Find My Device at google.com/android/find.
If you change your master password, the old one stops working. Please make sure you write the new one down before you close the page.
If you also cannot remember your master password
Please read I forgot my master password. It explains every option, step by step.
If you got a new phone and still have the old one
- Set up the app on the new phone first, and check it works.
- Then you can erase the old phone as usual.
Signing in on a computer first is a good way to check your master password before you set up the phone.
